Privacy
This site is an experience, not a service with accounts. There is no sign-up, we do not ask for your address and we sell nothing. But while the simulation runs, some things are recorded - here is exactly what.
What is recorded during the simulation
One row per session is stored:
- a random session identifier, created in your browser
- how far you got through the story, how long it took and which decisions you made (yield, shield, attempted abort)
- the figures the simulation calculated for your location
- city and country, and coordinates rounded to two decimals (about a kilometre)
- the language you watched it in
- a visitor fingerprint: sha256(IP + browser + secret salt) - the raw IP address is never stored
The operator name
The name you type at the start of the simulation stays in your browser. It is never sent to the server and never stored.
Location
If you allow location access, the coordinates come from your browser. If you do not, an approximate location is derived by the host from your IP address - usually accurate to the city.
Those coordinates are sent to external services to obtain the place name, the nearest hospital and school, and the current wind direction.
Signatures for peace
If you sign, we store the name you entered (at most 80 characters), the country and your consent. Approved names appear publicly on the wall.
You can also sign anonymously - then no name is stored at all, only the count goes up. If you want your name removed, write to us and it will be removed.
Cookies and analytics
Until you agree, Google Analytics sets no cookie at all: the visit is counted without an identifier.
If you accept, the cookies _ga and _ga_SDJGNHX88Y are set and last up to two years. Your choice is remembered in your browser under the key sg-consent - clear the site data and you will be asked again.
Where the data goes
- Vercel - hosting and the approximate location derived from your IP
- Supabase - the database holding sessions and signatures
- OpenStreetMap (Nominatim and Overpass) - place name, hospitals, schools
- Open-Meteo - wind direction
- CARTO - map tiles
- Google Analytics - only with your consent
Retention and your rights
Session data is kept for the life of the project and used in aggregate - for statistics and reports, never to contact an individual.
If you are in the European Union you have the right of access, correction and erasure. Since neither your IP address nor your email is stored, a session is hard to tie to you: the practical route is to tell us when you opened the site and, if you signed, under which name.
